Give it a go

Just starting out? You can buy or rent discs from Taupō Bungy situated on Spa Road, and you can easily play with just one or two discs.

Come along to one of our club days on the first Sunday of the month (usually starting at 9am) and our members will be happy to show you the ropes.

Different types of discs have different flight characteristics, so it is recommended to start off with a putter or mid-range, as these have the straightest lines. As you progress you start to learn how discs have different stabilities and will turn to the left or right when thrown. This is why you see players carrying bags with 20+ discs!

Thanks to Jordan all the way from the USA who recommended this great page for some further info about what you need to get in to the game (spoiler alert, you don't need much!):

Download the free Udisc app if you want to keep score. This is a fantastic resource which has all the layouts for all the courses in the world available! You can pay for a more feature rich full version.

A disc is thrown from a tee area to a target, which is the “hole”. The target is an elevated metal basket. These are now standard for all Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) sanctioned events. As a player progresses down the fairway, they must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw landed, until they have completed the hole by getting their disc to rest in the target (basket).

The PDGA sets the rules which must be followed in tournament play, and you become a PDGA member to earn a rating when playing in sanctioned events. More Info
